Are you supporting your child’s 8 Sensory Systems?
What is Project Sensory?
At Project Sensory, we believe that all children deserve the right tools to support their sensory systems. Every child has 7 (actually 8) sensory systems, therefore requiring organization and support in each of these systems.
Our goal is to make Project Sensory a place where parents, educators, and caregivers can come to find information, resources and tools to help support their child’s sensory systems.
Often times “sensory needs” are only associated with a child that has been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or ADHD. Unfortunately, unless you know a child who truly struggles with more than one sensory system, many have never even heard of the extensive research and resources available to help their child with every day struggles.
It is our goal to change that! We believe that ALL children have sensory needs and we can help grow a community that supports these children in their every day lives.
Why Project Sensory?
It is a known fact that most children spend the majority of their time with their teachers. They are sent to schooled with the expectaion that the teacher will be given all the tools nessesary to meet their needs. Unfortunatly, that is not reality.
After 12 years in the classroom as a National Board Certified teacher, Dayna was never trained in Sensory Needs, despite the fact that every child she ever taught had needs that needed to be met. Not to mention the students that had severe sensory needs, requiring much more than Dayna was ever taught to “manage”.
As parents, Jason and Dayna faced the same truth when they had their children in public school. Despite having some amazing teachers for their children, they constantly found that many teachers were ill-equipped to understand many of the students sensory needs. With the rise of Common Core standards and more sitting, testing and
In fact, many parents, educators and caregivers have never heard of sensory needs or how to support the spectrum of needs children face.
It is our goal to get the right sensory tools into the hands of all teachers and we want to start with the classroom!
